Vermont Academy (also known as VA) is an American mixed boarding / day school and a college preparatory school for students from nine to twelve years and also acceptance for students seeking a postgraduate year. Founded in 1876, is located in Saxtons River, Vermont. The school is mixed, and college preparatory, with a campus of 515 acres. There are 228 students from 30 states and 12 countries (46 International students – 20%).
History
The school was founded in 1876. [Citation needed]
In 1934, the school teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, Dartmouth College President Ernest Martin Hopkins recommended a fellow graduate of Dartmouth for the post of headmaster of Vermont Academy. Laurence G. Leavitt was principal for 25 years, during which time he doubled enrollment, debt retired school and made many improvements on the school campus.
